Trustee Fernando (Fred) Baca Fernando (Fred) Baca has served the Board of Trustees for the Barstow Community College District since 1995. A small business owner of Barstow Office Supply with his wife, Sandy, President Baca has been a resident of the community for more than forty years. He attended Barstow Community College as did four of his six children. Mr. Baca continues to play an active role in civic and community affairs as a member of the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce and founding member and past president of New Hope Village. He’s a former member of the Mojave Valley Volunteer Hospice, the Optimist Club of Barstow and the YMCA of Barstow. He was bestowed the honor of Man of the Year in 1994 and Small Business of the Year in 2006 by the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce. Trustee Dr. Ted Baca Dr. Ted Baca has served on the Barstow Community College Board of Trustees since 2005. A graduate of Barstow High School, he attended New Mexico Highlands University majoring in biology and physical education. A college athlete, he played baseball and in track set the University record in the Long Jump. Awarded both a National Science Fellowship and a teaching assistantship, Trustee Baca went on to earn a Masters degree in Biology from NMHU. He continued his education as a National Institute of Health Teaching Fellow, earning a Ph.D. in the Health Sciences from the University of Oregon with an emphasis in human and environmental biology. Following his formal education, Trustee Baca returned to Barstow and taught at BCC in various subjects including anatomy, physiology, general biology, zoology, and physical education. He also served in several administrative positions including as Executive Vice President of Instruction and Student Services. While an administrator, Dr. Baca was selected to be a Ford Foundation Fellow giving him the opportunity to study community college governance and leadership models across the country. Trustee Baca is honored to be a member of a visionary Board that has overseen the multi-million dollar construction of a Performing Arts Center, a Campus Wellness Center, a Career Technology facility and a campus Solar Field. Prudent Board Leadership has also resulted in effective water conservation measures, improved athletic fields and a strategically Master Planned College with fiscally responsible budget practices. Trustee Philip M. Harris Philip M. Harris has served the Board of Trustees for the Barstow Community College District since 1997. Trustee Harris graduated from Barstow High School and attended Barstow College for one year prior to transferring to San Diego State University. He completed his studies to receive a bachelor’s degree in business management with an emphasis in accounting. He is the current owner of a sports lounge in Barstow. Trustee Harris remains active in the community participating in the Barstow Humane Society’s Chili Cook-off, Toys for Tots, and the Optimist Club of Barstow. He has served as President and Vice President of the Optimist Club where he was named Optimist of the Year, and former member of the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce. Trustee Timothy T. Heiden Timothy Heiden has served the Board of Trustees for the Barstow Community College District since 1997. Trustee Heiden has experience in the K-12 environment as a school teacher for Barstow Unified School District. He is a retired sergeant from the Barstow Police Department. Trustee Heiden holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from the University of the State of New York and an associate’s degree in police science from the Madison Area Technical College in Wisconsin. Active in the community, Trustee Heiden and his wife, Lynna, founded and coordinated the “Christmas, Cops and Kids” program in 1995. He founded and implemented the local P.A.L. (Police Athletic League) program and the Robert A. Sessions Memorial Softball Tournament which benefits Barstow area children. Trustee Paul Wilkey Paul Wilkey and his wife Dannie have been married since 1990 and have raised four wonderful children. Trustee Wilkey was born and raised in Barstow and has always had a mindset to make a difference in this community. He has over 16 years of experience as a union employee and has owned his own business since 2011. He is an active member of the community assisting on several committees, coaching youth sports for over 16 years, active church member for over 30 years, Chamber of Commerce member, and has served as a Director on the Barstow Heights Community Services District Board for 4 years. Trustee Wilkey is committed to increase enrollment, expand athletics, and encourage all to “Dare Greatly.” |
