Chosen Name, Pronouns, Gender Identity, Prefixes
Barstow Community College seeks to be a welcoming and inclusive campus for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors as part of our Caring Campus Initiative. As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, BCC welcomes gender diversity and affirms our dedication to supporting the access and success of all members of our Community, including those who identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary.
Name Standards
Barstow Community College recognizes that many students and employees use names other than their legal name to identify themselves. These may include, but are not limited to, people who use their middle name instead of their first name, people who use a name that affirms their gender identity, people who use nicknames of their legal name, or people who use an anglicized name.
Students and employees may use their preferred or chosen first name, regardless of whether they have legally changed their name. Please note students and employees' legal names will continue to be used in certain capacities as required by law; e.g., transcripts, payroll records, financial aid documents.
Students who have gone through a legal name change process and wish to update their official College records, including academic record, diploma, and ID card can submit the Personal Information Update Form.
Staff and faculty who wish to inquire and/or begin the name change process should contact their Human Resources representative at hr@barstow.edu.
