How to Address Concerns
Students are encouraged to resolve issues informally whenever possible by discussing their concerns directly with the relevant parties (e.g., faculty, staff, or departments). If an informal resolution is not feasible or unsuccessful, students may file a formal complaint or grievance following the steps outlined below.
Types of Complaints
- Academic Complaints: Concerns about grading, instruction quality, or classroom management.
- Non-Academic Complaints: Issues related to campus services, facilities, or interactions with college staff.
- Discrimination, Harassment, or Title IX Complaints: Issues involving discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct.
- Financial Aid Complaints: Concerns regarding financial aid services or decisions.
Formal Complaint Process
- Step 1: Attempt Informal Resolution
Discuss the issue directly with the individual(s) or department involved. - Step 2: Submit a Formal Complaint
If an informal resolution fails, complete the Student Complaint Form which will then be routed to the appropriate office:- Academic Complaints: Academic Affairs Office
- Non-Academic Complaints: Student Services Office
- Discrimination/Title IX Complaints: Title IX Coordinator
- Step 3: Review and Response
Your complaint will be reviewed, and a response will be provided within 10 business days. - Step 4: Appeal (if applicable)
If you are dissatisfied with the resolution, you may appeal the decision through the appropriate channels outlined in the college grievance policy.
California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office
If you have exhausted the college's complaint resolution process and believe your issue remains unresolved, you may file a complaint with the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office.
