Barstow Community College is committed to fighting hunger and food insecurity on campus. Studies show that 2 in 3 students report experiencing food insecurity, where they are unable to provide enough food for each household member to live an active and healthy life.
If you're unable to come to campus or attend our produce markets, you can authorize a family member or friend to collect your items on your behalf. To authorize an individual for a particular day or the entire semester, simply click on the link below and fill out the form. If any questions, feel free to send an email to basicneeds@barstow.edu and one of our friendly staff will be happy to assist you.
To ensure fair distribution of resources and maintain order in the food pantry system, students are permitted to pick up food pantry items for only ONE other individual in addition to themselves. This policy helps ensure that all students have equitable access to the food pantry's offerings and prevents stockpiling or depletion of resources. Students who wish to pick up items for another person must complete the electronic prior written authorization form listed on the website from the individual they are assisting. This procedure helps maintain transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
To address this need for our students, Basic Needs Center provides a Food Pantry. The Food Pantry provides a variety of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food items daily. Additionally, our monthly Produce Market offers fresh fruits and vegetables.
Students can access Food Pantry services by visiting the Basic Needs Center, located in the K Building at the center of campus. Here, you can receive breakfast and lunch items daily, as well as non-perishable pantry items once per week. Furthermore, you can visit our monthly Produce Market on specific dates too!
If you need assistance or have any questions, please reach out to Basic Needs at basicneeds@barstow.edu or (760) 252-2411 ext. 6901. Together, we can work towards ending food insecurity on our campus.
HYGIENE ITEMS
Students are eligible to receive 3 full-sized hygiene items, once a month, during our produce markets. All services are provided to currently registered students and are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. While supplies last.
CLOTHING CLOSET
Our goal is to ensure that all students, regardless of their shape and size, have access to appropriate and comfortable clothing. Therefore, we offer a selection of garments that cater to various body types. Registered students are eligible to receive five articles of clothing each week from our clothing closet. We also take into consideration the needs of students who have children by providing clothing suitable for them as well.
To maintain the quality and standards of our clothing closet, we kindly request that you donate new or gently used clothes and shoes that exhibit minimal wear and tear. We are unable to accept clothing that is torn or stained, as we strive to provide students with items that are in good condition and presentable.
If you would like to contribute to our clothing closet, we greatly appreciate your donations. You can drop off your items at the Basic Needs desk located inside the K Building. Your support in this regard will help us continue assisting our students in a meaningful way.
