Barstow Community College is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) and CodeBoxx to launch the groundbreaking CodeBoxx Cadet Program. This collaborative effort is aimed at meeting the specific needs of our community college workforce development audience by offering a unique and tailored coding program.
The CodeBoxx Cadet Program, a brainchild of CodeBoxx in collaboration with NACCE, is designed to empower students with essential coding competencies at an entry-level. This hands-on program provides students with real-life experience, serving as a gateway for them to transition into the tech workforce at an entry-level.
"We are excited to be at the forefront of innovation in education with the introduction of the CodeBoxx Cadet Program. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to equip students with practical skills that are in high demand in today's tech-driven world," said Michael Haenelt, a Part-timeFaculty member at Barstow Community College. "Our community will greatly benefit from the opportunities this program provides, ensuring our students are well-prepared for the evolving job market."
As one of the four NACCE Member community colleges selected for the pilot program, Barstow Community College recognizes the immense potential of the CodeBoxx Cadet Program in providing students with a competitive edge in the tech industry job market, selecting the first cohort to launch on their Fort Irwin campus.
"The partnership with NACCE and CodeBoxx reflects our commitment to providing cutting-edge educational opportunities for our students. We believe that the CodeBoxx Cadet Program will open doors to exciting opportunities for our students in the tech sector," added Haenelt.
Spotlight on Michael Haenelt
Michael Haenelt first started working for Barstow Community College in 1991 when he got out of the Army in late 1990. Hired as an instructional technologist through a grant obtained to establish a campus-wide network with Internet access. By 1993, he had established a networked lab that could share resources, and in October 1994, he connected that lab to the Internet, shortly after establishing the college’s first official website.
Leaving his position in 1996, Haenelt continued working as a part-time instructor for BCC because I still loved teaching IT. Now, with the new CodeBoxx Cadet Program, BCC will deliver up-to-date training to students wishing to pursue careers in the IT field. CodeBoxx will help BCC deliver training that helps students learn valuable skills like coding, web-page development, and IT management skills.
The launch of the CodeBoxx Cadet Program at Barstow Community College is scheduled for the 2024 academic year. This initiative represents a significant step towards fostering innovation in education and preparing students for success in the rapidly evolving landscape of technology.
