Compass - Degree Audit and Plans

Compass at Barstow Community College

What is Compass?

Compass is Barstow Community College’s official online degree audit and Student Education Planning tool. It helps students track academic progress, understand graduation requirements, and build a clear plan to complete a certificate or degree.

Compass provides a personalized, real-time view of:

  • Courses completed
  • Courses currently in progress
  • Remaining graduation requirements
  • Units earned and units still needed
  • GPA information
  • Transfer credit (if applicable)

Your Degree Audit in Compass

Your audit is organized into easy-to-read sections including:

  • General Education Requirements
  • Major/Core Requirements
  • Electives
  • Graduation Requirements

Compass visually indicates which requirements are completed, in progress, or not yet started, making it easy to see what still needs attention.

Student Education Plans (SEPs)

Your Student Education Plan (SEP) is a semester-by-semester roadmap developed with a BCC counselor.

In Compass, you can:

  • View your counselor-approved education plan
  • See which courses are scheduled for future terms
  • Ensure planned courses align with graduation requirements
  • Stay organized and on track

If you do not have an SEP on file, schedule an appointment with Counseling through your student portal.

Monitor Your Progress

Students are encouraged to check Compass:

  • Before registering for classes
  • After registering each semester
  • After grades are posted
  • When considering a program change
  • Before submitting a graduation petition

What-If Planning Tool

The What-If feature allows students to explore different majors or certificates and see how completed coursework would apply to another program before officially making a change.

Important Reminders

  • Compass is an advising and planning tool, not an official transcript.
  • It reflects information recorded in BCC’s student system (Banner).
  • Program or SEP changes may take time to appear after processing.
  • If something appears incorrect, contact Admissions & Records or schedule a counseling appointment.
