The Viking Volunteer Program offers opportunities for students to engage in giving back to the campus and community by organizing volunteer opportunities for students to gain real-world knowledge. Volunteering can help improve mental health as well as forge new relationships while working with others. When thirty (30) volunteer hours have been completed through the Viking Volunteer Program, at an approved event, the hours can be placed on the student's transcript once they have applied for graduation or requested transcripts for transfer to a 4-year University. The Viking Volunteer Form must be filled out by the student and signed by the Event Contact (see below) and turned in to the Director of Student Life at studentlife@barstow.edu. Volunteer hours will be tracked in the Office of Student Life to ensure that the minimum number of hours is met to complete the program.
Volunteer hours can also be used on your resume. If you are unsure how to update your resume, visit the Transfer & Career Center inside the Student Services Building or contact them at transfer@barstow.edu for assistance.
By joining the Viking Volunteer Program, students will:
- Build meaningful contacts.
- Boost their resume.
- Develop new skills.
- Test the career waters.
- Gain a sense of fulfillment.
Including the Viking Volunteer program on a student's transcripts can get them noticed when applying for jobs or transferring to a 4-year University.
