Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th - October 15th, 2023
From September 15th to October 15th, we hosted a variety of free workshops, cultural activities, and performances for students and the local community.
A Look Back at Our Inaugural Hispanic Heritage Festival
In 2023, Barstow Community College launched its very first Hispanic Heritage Festival, kicking off an exciting series of events and activities dedicated to celebrating the cultural richness, heritage, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities. We extended the celebration beyond campus, inviting the Barstow community to join us for enriching events that reflected the diverse Latinx culture:

Showcase of Local Latinx-Owned Businesses & Campus Resources Students and local entrepreneurs showcased their businesses, providing a platform for community talent and entrepreneurial spirit. |
Cultural Performances Enjoyed a stunning Ballet Folklorico performance and a Bilingual Marionette Show, highlighting the power of traditional Hispanic storytelling and dance. |

Dia de los Muertos Crafting & Connection The Viking Grill became a hub for creativity and connection, with cultural crafting activities and delicious food to celebrate Hispanic culture. Students participated in crafting vibrant flower crowns as they learned about the cultural significance of this global tradition. |

Comunidad Building Through Games At the heart of our celebration, we brought the community together with vibrant Lotería games, offering a fun, interactive way to celebrate Hispanic culture. Enjoying free food and giveaways, students and community members bonded over shared laughter, joy, and tradition. |
Month-long Activities & Workshops for Students
Curated by the Student Success & Equity Office and led by the Associated Student Government (ASG), this year’s programming provided a dynamic experience for students to connect with their heritage, build leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of Hispanic and Latinx cultures.

A session focused on financial literacy and resources to help the Latinx community achieve financial success and stability. -
09/28/2023 | 2 – 3pm | LRC Conference Room & Zoom: Testimonio's of First Gen LatinX Students
Hear inspiring stories from first-generation students navigating their academic journey while staying connected to their cultural roots. -
10/04/2023 | 12 – 1pm | Transfer Center & Zoom: Finding Your Raza: HSI's & Latino Support Groups
A discussion on the role of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Latinx student support networks, and how they create a strong foundation for success.
