Share Your Story Video Official Contest Rules

The Brown Family Gift in partnership with Barstow Reads invites Barstow community members and Barstow Community College students to participate in the Share Your Story Video Contest of 2024. To enter, participants must create a 3-5 minute video sharing their story while integrating themes and/or characters from the novel There There.

There will be a total of three winners sponsored by The Brown Family Gift. First place winner will receive $500 cash, second place winner will receive $250 cash, and the third place winner will receive $100 cash.

Contest rules can be found hyperlinked, there is no purchase necessary to participate.

Submitting Your Video 

Participants must upload their video before 5:00 pm PST on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, with the required online submission form.

We are not responsible for errors with uploading entries.

Participants are encouraged to submit their videos early to avoid being disqualified due to uploading errors.

Late entries will not be accepted.

Videos submitted without the online submission form required information may be disqualified.

Entries must include the following in their submission package:

• Video link
  • Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox or Google Drive.
    • Ensure that your link is available for public viewing and submit your video link with your entry on the online form.

  • Video submissions can be entered here: (insert link to online form)
    • Ensure that you have completed all required fields.
    • Ensure that the video link you have entered is your public viewing video.
    • Submit the form.

Video Requirements

• Each participant is allowed to submit one submission. Multiple submissions will be automatically disqualified.
• Videos must be 3-5 minutes in length.
• Videos are preferred to be horizontal (wide) orientation, like a movie screen, although not required.
• All video content must be original and royalty-free (not copyrighted).
• Entries must be submitted through the Contest Entry Form and per the submission guidelines. Entries sent by email or mail will not be accepted.
• Videos should follow the judging rubric of the following four guidelines:
  • Time limit
    • Meeting the 3–5-minute range
  • Inclusion of There There.
    • A novel of many characters and their stories as well as themes throughout the novel. How does this relate to your life and your story? How will this be integrated into your video?
  • Production
    • While creating the video, is it well planned out, is the audio easy to hear, are any visual components easy to see and helping to get the story across to the viewer?
  • Creativity/Originality
    • Be as creative as you would like in your video as you share your story while integrating character(s) and/or theme(s) from There There.

No obligation or liability is assumed by Barstow Reads or The Brown Family Gift in connection with the contest.

All submitted videos agree to the use of the winners’ names and videos during promotion of Barstow Reads.

Eligibility 

Any Barstow resident ages 16+ and any Barstow Community College student is eligible to participate. Applicants must either be a Barstow resident and able to show proof of residency, or a Barstow Community College student who is actively registered in courses in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Prizes

There will be three winners, and The Brown Family Gift will provide the prizes.

Prizes include:

• 1st place: $500
• 2nd place: $250
• 3rd place: $100

The Brown Family Gift and members of Barstow Reads will recognize and honor the winners on May 1, 2024, where winning videos may be showcased on the website, on social media, and in media announcements.
