Benefit cards are a service provided to students that complete program requirements. EOPS students have the option of grocery, gas, and e-cards. CARE students have the option of Walmart, grocery and gas cards. NextUp has the option of grocery and gas cards. CalWORKs has the option of grocery and gas cards.
*All benefit cards are based on program funding and provided on a first come first serve basis
Students that live in Barstow will need to pick up their benefit cards in person from the Special Programs office.
Students that live outside of the Barstow area can request to have benefit cards mailed out to them or receive an e-card by submitting the Benefit Card Mail Request webform. For e-cards, they will be send to your BCC student email.
Students that complete program requirements by the stated deadline dates will receive two (2) benefit cards per requirement. If a student is on program probation, they will only receive one (1) per requirement.
Benefit cards do not roll over from semester to semester. Students are responsible for picking up their benefit cards by the stated deadline dates, usually the final day of classes. Check your student email for specific dates.
In your last semester, you do not need to be in 12 units for EOPS. However, you will need to meet with a SPS counselor to complete the EOPS Unit Waiver Request. After submitting your form, the program Director will determine your eligibility to be enrolled in less than 12 units. You will be notified of the status of your waiver through your BCC student email.
If you are dismissed from EOPS, you must "sit out" a main semester (Spring/Fall) and pass 12 units with a 2.0 GPA and meet program qualifications again.
If you were dismissed and had extenuating circumstance that prohibited you from completing program requirements by the stated deadline dates then you can submit the EOPS Reinstatement Appeal form. Please submit the completed appeal form to eops@barstow.edu and attach any supporting documentation to the email.
The committee will review your appeal and notify you of the status of your appeal through your BCC student email.
If you do not notify the program staff that you are no longer participating in the program you can be at risk of being placed on program probation or program dismissal. It is best that you communicate with program staff to avoid being placed in probation or dismissal. This will affect you when you try to reapply.
If you would like to withdrawal from a program, you must complete the Program Withdrawal form.
