Academic Renewal (For Courses Not Repeated)
Academic renewal offers students a valuable opportunity to mitigate the impact of past academic challenges at Barstow Community College, without the need for repeating courses. This process allows for certain grades to be excluded from the calculation of the student’s cumulative GPA, giving students a fresh start.
Eligibility Requirements
Academic renewal is available to students currently enrolled at Barstow Community College (BCC). Only courses completed at BCC are eligible for academic renewal, and students may request that no more than 30 units from a maximum of three semesters be disregarded from their GPA calculation.
To qualify for academic renewal, a period of at least twelve months must have passed since the end of the term for which renewal is being requested. Additionally, the student must meet one of the following conditions for work completed after the courses to be disregarded:
-
Completion of at least 15 semester units with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
-
Completion of at least 30 semester units with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
-
Completion of at least 45 semester units with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
Important Notes
-
Irreversible Action: Academic renewal is final and cannot be undone. The excluded courses, units, grades, or any other information will still appear on the official transcript, but they will not be factored into the cumulative GPA.
-
Transferability: Academic renewal granted by BCC may not be recognized by other institutions.
